What is the difference between Chevron Premium Process Oils and conventional paraffinic process oils?

The character and quality of process oils depends on how they are manufactured. In general, there are two manufacturing processes, the original solvent extraction process and modern hydroprocessing technology. The modern, all-hydroprocessing technology is more effective at lowering aromatic content, and the hydrocarbons remaining in the oil are much more stable than those in process oils produced using solvent extraction.

What are the benefits of paraffinic vs. naphthenic oils?

Typically, at any given viscosity, Chevron Premium Process Oils have lower volatility than other naphthenic oils, consequently less make-up oil is needed and component costs are minimized. Similarly, for any given volatility level, the viscosity is lower, making Chevron Premium Process Oils easier to handle and easier to process so throughput is improved and manufacturing costs are lowered. Also Chevron Premium Process Oils have better color stability than naphthenic oils.

Why do Chevron Premium Process Oils have better UV stability and low aromatics?

In hydroprocessing, undesirable components are converted to desirable and more stable molecular structures via saturation, ring opening and heteroatom removal. In hydrofinishing, the final stage of hydroprocessing, any remaining aromatics are hydrogenated, further improving oxidation stability and color.

Why are low aromatics good?

Low aromatic process oils are less carcinogenic and have better UV and color stability.

What is the difference between Paramount and Paralux?

Both Paramount and Paralux premium process oils are produced using Chevron's modern all-hydroprocessing technology. As a result, both products offer exceptional oxidation stability, excellent initial color, and lack discoloration after UV and/or heat exposure. Although Paramount and Paralux are each utilized in a wide variety of rubber and nonrubber applications (such as processing aids, extender oils, adhesives, and textiles), Paralux is better suited for applications where color stability and aromatics content are essential, primary requirements. Alternatively, Paramount offers a high quality, more cost effective solution in applications where color and aromatics requirements are less stringent.
