Base Oils
Chevron Innovation
One of Chevron's core beliefs is that technical excellence is fundamental to quality and reliability, and is the direct result of R&D and innovation.

Chevron has been at the forefront of innovation for decades, helping the base oils industry leap forward to new performance thresholds, while providing our customers the most advanced technologies available to meet current and impending specifications.

Some examples of Chevron innovation:
  • Chevron invented modern hydrocracking (ISOCRACKING) more than 40 years ago; we were first to commercialize it in 1962.
  • Over the last 10 years, ISOCRACKING has been selected by more refiners than any other hydrocracking technology.
  • Chevron was first to produce base oils using an all-hydroprocessing route.
  • Chevron invented ISODEWAXING, and was first to produce base oils using modern isomerization technology.
  • Today, Chevron Lummus Global is recognized as the world leader in base oil refining technology. Over two-thirds of all the Group II and Group III base oils worldwide are produced using Chevron Lummus Global technology.
This leadership assures our customers that no one can better prepare them for complex new specifications, such as GF-4.
